HARARE – Government Spokesperson Nick Mangwana has apologised for comments he made yesterday which insinuated that some in the medical profession were political activists deliberately eliminating certain political players.
Yesterday, the Information Ministry Permanent Secretary Mangwana torched a storm when he alleged that some doctors were ‘medical assassins’ targeting certain political players.
The comments came in the context of a week in which top officials aligned to the ruling Zanu-PF succumbed to Covid-19.
“I followed that. This is what’s leading to the unfortunate conspiracy theory that there are certain political players being eliminated in hospitals by political activists hiding behind medical qualifications. In fact not just political players but medical assassins,” he said.
However, he has since apologised adding that he had no intention of calling doctors names or offending them.
“I expressed my personal view on an issue a Dr had tweeted on. I had no intention to offend any doctor or call any of them names. Since it has caused such an offence, I withdraw it and apologise for any offence caused. I just hope we can move forward and not be distracted from work at hand,” said Mangwana in his apology.
