HARARE – Delta Corporation Limited has announced the appointment of Matlhogonolo Valela as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to replace Pearson Gowero.
Announcing the developments, Delta Corporation Ltd Board Chairman Canaan Farirai Dube said Valela will become the new CEO with effect from 1 July with Gowero retiring on the 30th of June after 9 years at the helm.
“Mr Matlhogonolo Valela has been appointed a Chief Executive Officer with effect from 1 July. Matt’s has been the Group Finance Director since July 2011. He will immediately assume the role of Chief Operating Officer,” Dube said.
A Chartered Accountant by profession, Valela has been with Delta since December 1996.
Dube said Gowero will be retiring after being with the company for nearly 25 years.
“Mr Pearson Gowero steps down, on retirement, as Chief Executive Officer and director of the Company on 30 June 2021, drawing to a close a distinguished career with the Group spanning nearly 25 years. Pearson was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer in June 2012, having joined the group in 1997,” said Dube.
“He started at Chibuku Breweries in marketing and rose to become the Divisional Managing Director. He was appointed to the Delta board in 2003 as Executive Director responsible for beverages business sales and distribution operations.
“Mr Gowero was seconded to SAB Miller Africa in 2006 where he served as Managing Director of Zambian Breweries Group until his return to Delta as Chief Operating Officer in 2011.”
Dube said Gowero had provided leadership during a difficult period in the business environment.
Meanwhile, in another appointment, Alex Makamure will be take up the role of Group Finance with effect from 1 April 2021.
Makamure is currently the Company Secretary and Group Treasurer responsible for Corporate Affairs and Supply Chain.
