ZIMBABWE – Godknows Nyabonde, 32, pleaded not guilty when he appeared in court was charged with assault after violently attacking his fellow vendor for mistakenly stepping on his maize cobs.
Nyabonde will be back in court today for his judgment after full trial.
It alleged that Unfree Moyo went to Mbare market to buy tomatoes she intended to sell.
As she was about to pass through Nyabonde’s vending stall she mistakenly stepped on his maize cobs and asked for forgiveness.
Nyabonde in ire shouted at Moyo who also retaliated.
Out fury Nyabonde allegedly grabbed Moyo by his collar, pushed him to floor and slapped him.
“I did not have an intention of stepping on his maize cobs, I was just passing by and I mistakenly stepped on them because they were in my way.
But he turned violent and attacked me after I had asked for forgiveness”, Moyo explained in court.
In defense Nyabonde told the court he assumed Moyo had intentionally stepped on his cobs reason being he did not show remorse in what he had done
