CHINHOYI – Opposition MDC Alliance has called for the immediate release of twelve Mashonaland West provincial leaders arrested on Saturday while planning a funeral service for one of the party members.
The party said the 12 leaders were taken at gunpoint by a team of security agents made up of six soldiers and seven police officers.
In a statement, the party said the arrested members are currently detained at Chinhoyi police station.
“We demand the immediate release of our Mash West leaders who were “arrested” at gunpoint by soldiers yesterday. They were planning the funeral of Mr Kembo, a ward 4 member. They are currently detained at Chinhoyi Central Police Station,” read the statement.
The arrested members are Ralph Magunje, Abigal Usai, Collen Mapfumo, Tawanda Bvumo, Emmanuel Chinanzvavana, Wilson Makanyire, Pauline Sibanda, Blessing Mandava, Kudakwashe Chigumo, Richard Vitrinue, Edward Dzeka and Kudakwashe Mandishona.
They are charged with breaching Covid-19 regulations.
