HARARE – MDC Alliance vice president and Harare East Member of parliament Tendai Biti is reportedly receiving death threats from an unidentified individual, his lawyers have said.
According to Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), Biti has been allegedly receiving threatening messages from one ‘Gakanjwe’ because of his (Biti) criticism of government’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“@BitiTendai has since advised us that he has been receiving death threats. This follows a heated telephone conversation with a person identifying himself as Gakanjwe quizzing @BitiTendai abt tweeting on gvts failure to deal with #COVID19,” wrote ZLHR on their Twitter platform.

It is also said that three unidentified people went to Biti’s law firm and put placards on the gate which were insulting and making various accusations against the MDC Alliance VP.
Some of the placards were written”you are a murderer Tendai Biti,” while some said “office of a rightful stupid Biti.”

And, it is further claimed those who put the placards threatened to come back and burn down the law firm.
They also revealed that Biti was today strangely arrested but later released without any charge.
“At about 09:25 hours today, we received a distress call from @BitiTendai advising us that he had been arrested by police in Karoi. He was not informed of any charge. He was eventually released without any charges against him,” added ZLHR.
Biti has been very vocal in his criticism of how the government has been responding to the pandemic.
