HARARE – MDC – T has dismissed the allegations against it’s Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora who is accused of illegally transferring ZWL$300 000 from the party coffers.
This follows the press conference held by one of the founding party members, Leonard Chisvo demanding that the leadership take decisive action and suspend Mwonzora.
Chisvo has already made police case against Mwonzora and publicly blasted the party’s acting President Thokozani Khupe accusing her of bias.
MDC – T Acting National Spokesperson Tapiwa Mashakada dismissed the allegations saying they were a malicious attempt by the party detractors who want to disrupt the party.
“The MDC – T would like to dismiss with the contempt it deserves, the malicious and baseless allegation by our detractors to the effect that the MDC – T Secretary General Sen Douglas Mwonzora mishandled or put to his own use some of money in the amount of ZWL300 000.
“The Finance and Administration Committee and the National Standing Committee of the MDC – T carefully looked into the allegations and found no truth in those allegation,” said Mashakada
Mashaka further claimed the money was used to pay the party lawyers who have been handling various legal cases for the party.
He also blasted Chisvo saying he had no right to act on behalf of the party in any way.

“The so – called looted funds were in fact disbursed as part payment to our legal defence team whom we owe lots of money. Our excellent legal team has won all the 20 lawsuits so far mounted against the MDC – T by our detractors.
“The MDC – T party hereby sets the record straight that no funds were abused by Hon Douglas Mwonzora. The person who allegedly reported the matter to the Highlands police, Leonard Chisvo has no loci standi to act for on behalf of the party whatsoever.”
The allegations against Mwonzora have taken center stage in the week leading up to the party’s Extra Ordinary Congress slated for the 19th of December 2020.
Some have been quick to claim these allegations are part of the internal struggles meant to push Mwonzora out and set a clear path to victory for Khupe.
Recently another presidential hopeful, Abednico Bhebe was expelled from the party with reports emerging that he was leading the race in the Bulawayo nominations.
