HARARE – The State has continued its persecution of the three MDC Alliance female activists, Joana Mamombe, Netsai Marova and Cecilia Chimbiri as it pushes for their trial where they are accused of participating in an illegal demonstration.
Their trial on these charges has been set for 19 January while they have to be in court again in the same month where they are answering to separate charges of ‘faking their abduction.’
Mamombe, Chimbiri and Marova together with three other activists participated in a hunger strike on May 13 at Warren Park 1 shopping centre before they were arrested by the police on the basis that the gathering was illegal.

Subsequently, the trio went missing for more than a day and was found outside Harare with visible injuries and claims that they had been abducted and tortured by suspected state agents.
Following a public outcry, the State revived the charges and also alleged that they faked their abduction leading to separate charges.
Obey Tererai Sithole, Lovejoy Chitengu and Stanley Manyenga will also stand trial with the trio after the State through Mr Tafara Chirambira furnished them with the court papers.
