ZIMBABWE – A mechanic has reportedly snatched clients from his employer, realising a lot of money but has abandoned his minor child.
This came to light at the Harare civil court, where the mechanic William Gwanzura was dragged to the maintenance court by his ex-wife Eunice Chaidoni.
Eunice told the court that since the time William owned a garage he neglected to support her with the welfare of their child.
“I want US$300 from him because he earns US$1800 per month.
“He snatched all bourgeoisie clients from his boss and opened his own garage.
“My child is suffering whilst his father is squandering money in town.
“I need US$120 for rent and bills, US$115 for food and medicals and US$80 for the maid.
“He never paid pre-school fees for his child,” she said.
Eunice added:
William is a motor mechanic and charges not less than US$50 per car.
He only enjoys driving around with the child in other people’s cars,” she said.
William who offered US$30 for the up keep of his child said:
“Yes I left work in 2007 but I cannot afford the amount she is claiming.
“These days the business is low and can realise US$30-US$40 per week,” he said.
Presiding magistrate Trevor Nyatsanza, ordered William to pay US$100 per month.
