ZIMBABWE – Condolence messages from various media stakeholders across the country have continued pouring in for the late Foster Dongozi who passed on yesterday.
Dongozi (48) died upon arrival at Parirenyatwa Hospital after having some breathing problems.
His death was confirmed by Zimbabwe Union of Journalists(ZUJ) President Micheal Chideme.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the death of Mr Foster Vulindlela Dongozi, the Secretary-General of the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ)…
“Mr Dongozi started feeling unwell on Saturday after attending a Moderation and Presentation Workshop on Media Training on the Transitional Stabilisation Programme Success and National Development Strategy 1 Reporting organised by the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services in Gweru,” said Chideme.
He was a key figure in advocating for media freedom and independence in the country.
The Chairperson in the Media, Information and Broadcasting services parliamentary portfolio committee, Sipho Mokone said Dongozi had played a key role in the media industry particularly in the area of legislation.
“The role that he played cannot be exhausted fully in this condolence message piece. He rose through the ranks from a tender age, notably in 2013, he was one of the key journalists in the Information and Media Panel of Inquiry (IMPI).
“He played an imperative role in the crafting of the Freedom of Information Act which is now law, the Zimbabwe Media Commission Bill which has been sent to the President. He also became influential in the crafting of the Zimbabwe Media Practitioner’s Bill this year which talks about the independence of Journalists amongst other issues.
“As a committee, we were anticipating that we will also finish the pending Media Bills with him,” said Mokone.
