ZIMBABWE – A tout yesterday offered to give his baby mama US$20 for the upkeep of their five months old child instead of the US$150 she was asking for.
This came to light at Harare civil court where Natasha Maponga wanted Alfred Nangaga to start taking care of his child financially.
“Alfred is my former lover and from our love relationship we had a child together, the problem is, he is failing to take care of his child.
“I had no intention to bring him here but his ignorance towards the child forced me to seek recourse from this court.
“Alfred should give me the money I am asking for because our child needs to be taken care of,” she said.
In response, Alfred said:
“I cannot afford the money she is asking for because from my job as a tout I get about US$50 every month.
“She should be reasonable and accept the US$20 I am offering because I recently got married and my wife is expecting a baby soon.”
Magistrate Trevor Nyatsanza, who presided over the matter, ordered Alfred to pay US$45 beginning January 30.
