One of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s most loyal allies, Owen “Mudha” Ncube, is back at it, unlawfully cheering for Mnangagwa to extend his reign beyond the constitutionally allowed two terms. Ncube, who was fired from his state security role for incompetence, was caught on tape leading chants of “2030 ED Anenge Achitonga” (2030 uED UZABE elokhu ebusa).

For context, Mnangagwa’s second and last term ends in 2028. These chants throw shade directly at Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, the man behind the 2017 coup that dethroned Zimbabwe’s long-time dictator Robert Mugabe and paved the way for Mnangagwa’s return after his abrupt dismissal.

Chiwenga is a controversial figure within ZANU-PF, criticised for his minimal liberation credentials and perceived dictatorial ambitions.

As cracks widen within the ruling party, Zimbabweans are in for a political spectacle. The big question: will all the major players be around until Mnangagwa’s term ends in 2028, or will there be more unexpected twists and turns? Grab your popcorn – this fast-paced drama is just getting started!
