HARARE – Police have issued a stern warning to bars and restaurants who are defying the set regulations meant to curb the spread of Covid-19.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi warned that the threat of the third wave was still lingering hence the police will enforce the set measures fully.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police has noted with concern the proliferation of bars, beer halls and restaurants which are openly defying the Government’s Covid-19 regulations by operating with clients drinking beer whilst closed inside. Some are even drinking whilst parking vehicles at the premises. In some cases, loud music is being played as the revellers play hide and seek with the police.
“The police reminds the public that the threat of the third wave of the pandemic is still imminent according to medical experts. Therefore Zimbabwe Republic Police will arrest all operators who are not complying with the Government’s directive to remain closed,” Nyathi said.
Nyathi said relevant ministries were ordered to revoke licenses for those who continue violating the set regulations while urging the public to report such cases to the authorities.
Zimbabwe has since opened up since the rolling out of the vaccination programme, however, there are still set restrictions in place to ensure the progress made so far in containing the virus is not derailed.
