ZIMBABWE – An ex-policeman was accused by her former wife that he verbally and physically abused her claiming to be above the law.
This came to light at the Harare civil court where Angela Maforimo was seeking for a protection order against her ex-hubby Benjamin Chidewu.
Angela pleading for protection she said:
“We separated with my husband six months ago, but he insisted for us to reconcile and I am against it.
“This is because he verbally and physically abuses me.
“Benjamin refused to let me get my property and clothes from our matrimonial home.
“He threatens, harasses and forcefully shakes me claiming that he is superior.
“Benjamin brags to be an ex-policeman and being above the law.
“I filed for divorce because am no longer interested in him.
“I am therefore pleading for a protection order against Benjamin so that the divorce proceedings will occur peacefully.”
In response, Benjamin said:
“She is lying because I did not say am above the law.
“Instead, she is the one who asked me to get out of her life.
“I agreed to the divorce she requested after discovering that Angela had an extra marital affair.
“I do not deny Angela access to her property like she said.”
Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa, who presided over the matter, granted the protection order in Angela’s favour.
