ZIMBABWE – Passway Mubayiwa hauled her ex-wife Naomi Mubayiwa to the Harare civil court, claiming child custody as she accused her wife of being irresponsible.

Mubayiwa said in court:

“I want custody of the children because my ex-wife seems to be irresponsible.

“Naomi Muchada leaves my children alone when she goes out on her cross boarder business trips.

“I am afraid that one day she will leave the country for good whilst my children are alone.

“What hurts me most is that my children were not going to school yet I was paying school fees.

“So, I think it is better for me to stay with my children.

“I will take them to a boarding school and employ a maid.”

In response, Muchada said:

“I do not believe it is proper for my children to be taken away from me.

“Mubayiwa stays with another wife now.

“After all, he forcefully took my children from my young sister after I had gone out for business on the 21st of December last year.

“He should not use lies against me as a polygamist.

“I will not apply for maintenance if those are his fears because all along I have been looking my children alone.”

Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa, who presided over the matter, dismissed Mubayiwa’s application and granted Muchada the children’s custody.
