HARARE – PROPHETIC Healing and Deliverance Ministries leader Prophet Walter Magaya yesterday donated R1, 2 million for the construction of a 2, 5 mega litres reservoir at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

The building of the reservoir comes as Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals has been hit by water shortages over the years, which saw the institution going for days without water. Parirenyatwa Hospital has five boreholes to serve the 3 500 staff complement and 1 000 patients admitted at any given time.

Addressing hundreds of people gathered at the institution, Prophet Magaya said the donation would go a long way in helping the hospital and patients. “We discovered that there are water shortages at many health institutions in the country, so we decided to help,” said Prophet Magaya.

He took the opportunity to clear controversies over patients on antiretroviral drugs, saying they should continue with their treatment even after being prayed for. He said ART patients could only stop using their drugs after instructions from their medical practitioners.

“When we pray for people, we don’t encourage them to stop using their medicine, but we ask them to go back to the doctors and get the confirmation to stop taking medication,” said Prophet Magaya.

“I don’t encourage people to stop taking their medication, but I actually use medical reports as proof of the healing. People believe in magic not the power of God, so we encourage people to continue using their drugs until the doctor says stop.”

Prophet Magaya then asked for permission from Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa to construct a hospital near his church premises in Waterfalls. Dr Parirenyatwa said there was no problem with the request and commended Prophet Magaya for the donation.

“We acknowledge the donation that has come to us as we are in the process of decentralising all our hospital institutions,” he said. Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals group chief executive Mr Thomas Zigora said the building of the reservoir will take eight months to complete. There was commotion during Prophet Magaya’s tour of the hospital wards as many people wanted to come near him to be prayed for.
