Liverpool Bow To Chelsea To Set New Record
The Premier League champions welcomed Chelsea to Anfield and a top drawer strike across goal into the far post from Mason Mount meant Chelsea would hold on for a win.
That defeat left Liverpool with five consecutive home defeats for the first time in the club’s history as they dropped to 7th on the log. It was a convincing performance from the visitors who looked more comfortable and eager to clinch the victory.
Chelsea were in command from the word go and a solid defensive display from Antonio Rudiger left Klopp with no choice but to take off (Mohammed) Salah.
A transformed Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel means they are back in contention for a Champions League spot. The rise by the blues under the German has shown nothing short of confidence as they are still to lose a match having drawn at their worst.
Liverpool is on the verge of posting the worst title defence after Moyes’ 45 points from 27 games.
With the League still miles away from ending, it will be interesting to see how Liverpool fight back as only Manchester City looks certain for a top four finish.
Derby weekend on the horizon.
This weekend promises to be a big one in La Liga and English Premier League as two derbies are set to decide title races and bragging rights.
Log leaders Atletico Madrid welcome defending champions Real Madrid on Sunday for what will be an immense battle to bring the title within reach of Barcelona and Madrid or a stretch to keep the title in the log leader’s possession.
Real Madrid will be without most of their star players including skipper Sergio Ramos due to injuries. Atletico will be eager to let Suarez off the leash and trouble a wounded Real Madrid who had to thrive for an equaliser against Real Sociedad last time out.
On the same day, log leaders Manchester City will welcome the red blood of the city as Manchester United look to stop the 21 match winning streak once and for all.
Manchester United have failed to score in their past four matches and that will be a bonus for Man City coming into the match as they have kept more clean sheets than any team. Man Utd now look to be the opposite of last season as they are losing points in a period that got them Champions League football after multiple wins on the run.
The red devils have won two, drawn 5 and lost one in theirlasy eight while City have counted goals rather than wins.
Pep Guardiola will be ruthless and is aware that a win in the derby will send a message as they aim for the quadruple this season.
