ZIMBABWE – South Africa based sungura artist Alex Dekete and his band The Fefeterwa Zest are doing wonders as some of their songs have become popular on South African radio station Westside FM.
This has shown that sungura is not only popular in Zimbabwe but other neighbouring countries.
His songs that are receiving much air play include Ndoita basa, Rumbidzai and Tungamirai.
In an interview, the 31 year old said his music started to be played on the station since he released his first album Simba Guru in 2014.
“My music is being played here in South Africa and I never thought that people from here could enjoy sungura,” he said
He added;
“I do most of my shows during the month end when most people get money and fans come especially to those places they know me; the turnout is good.
“This shows that my music is being appreciated here, so as an upcoming artiste in a foreign land I cannot complain, I’m satisfied with the turn out we get here.
“I managed to catch the attention of CC Chiedza promotions here after they noted the noise my music is making.”
He added that if these sungura artistes are to make it they need promotions.
“Sungura needs to be promoted if upcoming artistes are to make it, if we get enough space to be promoted the genre can be become more popular since we are so many,” he said
He further said he is busy recording his second album tilted Tsamba Yerudo which will be released anytime in mid February.
