HARARE – Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, SB Moyo is emerging as a powerful figure within government and the ZANU-PF party and is strongly becoming positioned to take over as Zimbabwe’s next President.
This is according to Jonathan Moyo, a former ZANU-PF Politburo member and Minister in the Mugabe government who is now exiled following the November 2017 military coup.

SB Moyo was the face of the coup that ousted former President Robert Mugabe and Jonathan Moyo was one of the casualties after his G40 faction lost the succesion battle to Mnangagwa’s Lacoste.
Jonathan Moyo said this while speaking at an event done via zoom which was organised by Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition.
“It’s being whispered widely and the whispers are getting louder, that SB has emerged as a center of power with his own ambitions and that he now fancies his chances, ” said former Minister Jonathan Moyo during the meeting.

Moyo went on to dismiss the chances of Vice President, Chiwenga taking over claiming this is due to concerns over his health within ZANU-PF.
” Many now see him more as a king maker than a king in waiting. Nevertheless, some ZANU-PF Politburo members are said to be working for a Chiwenga takeover,” further claimed Moyo.

He mentioned the likes of recently expelled Tendai Savanhu and Cleveria Chizema who were expelled from the party for fomenting dissent within the party as some of those working for Chiwenga. He also picked out party bigwigs such as Patrick Chinamasa and Obert Mpofu as others linked to Chiwenga.

The Dialogue Series was held under the theme; “Zimbabwe’s prospects: transition, imperatives and stability.
It was held on Wednesday 26 August 2020 and was moderated by Violet Gonda.
