HARARE – The trial for three MDC-Alliance activists, Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova who are accused of communicating falsehoods prejudicial to the State failed to resume yesterday after the State requested that their trial be separated.
The State through Prosecutor Michael Reza submitted that Mamombe be separated from her other co-accused because it was unclear when she will be fit to stand trial.
Mamombe was recently declared mentally unfit to stand trial after medical examinations found that she was suffering from ‘anxiety disorders’.
The three were reportedly abducted by State agents on 13 May 2020 after participating in a hunger strike.
However, the State claimed the three had stage – managed their own abductions and subsequently charged them.
