ZIMBABWE – The factional fights reportedly pitting MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai and Kuwadzana East MP, Nelson Chamisa have moved to Mashonaland East where the provincial executive is reported to be in the process of purging members aligned to the legislator.
Top among the list of members that the executive wants to be suspended is Jane Chifamba who is the provincial Women’s Assembly chairwoman and a senator, sources in the party said on Monday.
“The province wants to replace Senator Chifamba with her deputy, Nancy Mutize. She is being accused of holding a number of secret meetings with Chamisa in Ruwa and Mutare,” one of the sources said.
“Chamisa has many supporters in this province who are being led by Senator Chifamba to take Tsvangirai head on,” she added.
“However, those backing Chamisa have had their names taken to the national office in Harare and their fate is expected to be decided very soon.
It is reported that the list is now with the secretary general, Douglas Mwonzora.”
Mashonaland East MDC-T chairman Piniel Denga however, dismissed the reports as false saying the allegations were the work of the party’s detractors.
“There is nothing like that. It is mere speculation, he said.
If anyone in the province has problems they must engage us. We are a united party and we are aware that there are some elements that are planning to cause disharmony in the party.”
