ZIMBABWE – MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai will temporarily abandon his current Mashonaland Central tour to lead mourners at Saturday’s burial of the late Harare deputy mayor Thomas Muzuva.
Muzuva, who succumbed to colon cancer on Wednesday, is being buried in his home area in Wedza. He was MDC-T councillor for Kambuzuma.
MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu said Friday that the former premier and his entourage would suspend their meet the people tour in the Zanu PF stronghold to attend the solemn occasion.
The President is going to attend the funeral, said Gutu, There is definitely no way he cannot be there for the funeral.
Tsvangirai is out in Mashonaland Central on a four-day tour featuring meetings and consultations with party supporters and Zimbabweans.
Luke Tamborinyoka, spokesperson for the MDC-T leader, said the meetings are aimed at gauging the views of ordinary Zimbabweans on the country’s dire economic situation.
President Tsvangirai will take time to meet party structures and listen to the problems facing the people at a time the nation is convinced the party in government has no capacity to deal with the monumental crisis engulfing the country, said Tamborinyoka.
Tsvangirai kicked off his tour with a visit to Muzarabani business centre and was, Friday, set for another meeting at Nzvimbo growth point in Chiweshe.
He will, Saturday, suspend the Nyava business centre meeting in Bindura South to attend Muzuva’s burial before resuming the tour with a visit to Mt Darwin on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Harare city authorities have likewise cancelled all pre-budget public consultations it had lined up for Saturday to accommodate the funeral of the deputy mayor.
Council spokesperson Michael Chideme confirmed the development.
