HARARE – Zimbabwe Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri has urged wives of senior officers to remain patriotic and vote for Zanu-PF in the forthcoming elections.

Speaking at the Kuyedza Women’s Club 2013 leadership workshop in Selous yesterday, Comm Gen Chihuri said there was a need for people to know their history, the present and their future.
“Zimbabwe is your country and you don’t need to be a stranger in your own country. “Let’s respect our country, let’s protect our country because it’s the only one that we have and it’s the only one you will ever have,” he said.
Comm-Gen Chihuri urged officers and the public to be inspired by Mbuya Nehanda who impressed upon the people of Zimbabwe to safeguard the country against the machinations of colonialists.
Several wives of police commanders, including Comm-Gen Chihuri’s wife, Isabel, are undergoing the weeklong training. Mrs Chihuri is the vice president of Kuyedza Women’s Club while the Commissioner General is the president.
The workshop is covering topics such as business management, bookkeeping and record keeping, business plan, marketing, leadership and the history of Zimbabwe and patriotism. Comm-Gen Chihuri said the workshop was designed to cater for the club’s leadership.
“The leadership training will ensure the vision, mission, objectives and goals of the club are well enunciated and consistently applied,” he said. He said leadership development gives an individual the opportunity to improve skills, develop their talents, manage their weakness and reinforce their ability to use their personal knowledge and organization resources.
“Patriotism is paramount, first because patriotism refers to love for and loyalty to one’s country and this includes the land and its people, its customs and traditions, pride in its history and devotion to its welfare,” he said.
Comm-Gen Chihuri said the Ministry of Youth, Gender and Economic Empowerment had promised to introduce a revolving fund to assist the club’s activities.
“This is done with a mind that once members become self-reliant in chosen income generating projects they become empowered, fulfilling the government’s thrust of women empowerment.
“Once the fund is accessed, it is my fervent hope that it will go a long way in empowering not only the club members but the ZRP as an organisation and the entire nation,” he said.
