'We will die for Tsvangirai!'

BEITBRIDGE — MDC-T national youth leader Solomon Madzore on Saturday urged party youths to be more vigilant as election dates beckon to safeguard their votes and ensure a resounding victory for MDC-T presidential candidate Morgan Tsvangirai.

Addressing about 400 supporters at a campaign rally at OJs medium-density suburb in Beitbridge, Madzore said: “This time we are going to make sure that our leader Morgan Tsvangirai goes straight into State House after winning elections and no one will stop him.”

“We are ready to die fighting for Tsvangirai. We only fear God and not President (Robert) Mugabe.”

Madzore, who spent about 18 months in remand prison, however, said MDC-T youths were committed to a smooth transfer of power should Mugabe lose the forthcoming election which the 88-year-old Zanu PF leader wants held in March next year.

He said service chiefs would only get fired if they refused to salute Tsvangirai.

“They will have to salute Tsvangirai if he wins and if they refuse, we will just tell them to go to their rural areas. We need peace in Zimbabwe after next year’s elections. Mugabe and Zanu PF have to respect the will of the people of Zimbabwe. Mugabe must leave for Zvimba after losing elections next year. We won’t allow him to continue holding the future of Zimbabwe hostage.”

Zanu PF and the two MDCs have already started campaigning with Tsvangirai saying his party will complete its selection of candidates next month.

Zanu PF is yet to issue party members with guidelines on the selection of party candidates, while Welshman Ncube’s MDC has also not indicated when and how its candidates will be selected.
