ZIMBABWE – All systems are in place for the official opening of the 13th Zanu PF Annual National People’s conference by the party’s First Secretary President Mugabe here today.
After weeks of working round the clock the imposing US$6, 5 million conference centre was yesterday declared ready for use with party’s Midlands Provincial vice chairman Cde Larry Mavima paying tribute to cadres who put their shoulder to the wheel.
“All is set for the official opening of the Annual National People’s Conference by Cde Robert Mugabe. The major construction work was completed earlier in the week and all we were doing today (yesterday) was clearing the rumble with the assistance of youths from Mangwende District in Chirumanzi.
“In the auditorium all the chairs are in place and the organising committee has finalised the seating arrangements. We are thrilled to have met the deadline and everything points to a successful conference as the majority of delegates have arrived and have been accommodated,” he said.
Mavima added that two fully equipped clinics have been set up near the conference venue. Despite having been booked in lodges and schools in and around Gweru the majority of delegates could not resist a drive to the facility for a preconference peep at a facility that is set to transform the tourism fortunes of the Midlands Provincial capital.
“I don’t think I was going to sleep well if I hadn’t been given an opportunity to come and get a glimpse at Zanu PF’s new baby,” said a beaming Thulani Maphosa of Matabeleland North province.
“Before coming here I had heard a lot about how beautiful this place is but nothing prepared me for this amazing site. This is a facility that shows that Zanu PF is the party for yesterday, today and tomorrow.
“Clearly this shows that the party means business ahead of next year’s elections. As party cadres we take our hats off to the Midlands provincial leadership and the party cadres who worked hard to ensure everything is in place.
“With the majority of workers who worked on the conference centre drawn from the Zanu PF Youth League construction of the US$6, 5 million facility and meeting the tight deadline was all about passion.
“Clad in Zanu PF regalia the youths put in the long hours and yesterday there was a genuine feeling of accomplishment among them as the conference centre was declared ready for use. We never doubted that we will meet the target,” said 24 year old Solomon Tafirenyika.
“Some of us were not even born when the liberation war was fought but we believe that we have done our part in serving the party by working flat out to ensure that the conference centre is ready for this historic event. “For some of us working on this conference centre was not about money, it was a labour of love for the party and our God given leader President Robert Mugabe.”
