HARARE – The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) announced that it has lifted with immediate effect the suspension of electoral activity that were put on hold as a result of government lockdown regulations that were put to curb the spread of the novel corona virus.
According to the statement issued by the Commission, there are measures that have been adopted to ensure the safety of people.
“The lifting follows a cautionary observation of the pandemic’s trends and subsequent adoption of health safety measures, including the drafting and operationalisation of a Covid-19 Policy on Electoral Activities by the Commission whose contents were open to stakeholder contribution.”
By-elections are set to be conducted in December with many vacant seats to be filled after a massive recall exercise of both councillors and MPs by the Khuphe led MDC-T.
