BEIJING – Zimbabwe is among the first fourteen countries set to receive the Chinese developed Covid-19 vaccine, China has said.
In a statement, Chinese Foreign Affairs spokesperson Wang Wenbin named 14 countries including Zimbabwe as the first countries set to receive the vaccine
“First, apart from Pakistan, China is also providing vaccine aid to Brunei, Nepal, the Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Palestine, Belarus, Sierra Leon, Ko Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea, altogether 13 developing countries. Going forward, we will also assist another 38 developing countries with vaccines.
Wenbin also said China was actively taking part in the WHO-led COVAX and provide vaccines through this platform to developing countries.
Zimbabwe and other African countries are set to also benefit from this scheme.
While South Africa yesterday received its first batch of the vaccine, Zimbabwe’s vaccination roll-out plan is still not known to many with the government saying it will avail more information once experts have made their final recommendations.
