USA – With bloodstains on his pants, a Delaware County corrections officer walked into the Tinicum Township police station Wednesday and asked the chief to put him in handcuffs.
“He indicated he did something bad,” said District Attorney Jack Whelan, who announced at a news conference that Winlaw Muzirwa had been charged with the first-degree murder of his wife, Daisy Janbawo.
Whelan said Muzirwa, 38, entered the station at 10:15 a.m. Moments later police found his 34-year-old wife’s body in the third-flood bedroom of the couple’s home in the 500 block of Third Street, shot in the face and back.
Officials said the couple, who had a history of domestic trouble, had been quarreling. “He reached for his gun and shot her,” Whelan said.
According to the arrest affidavit, Muzirwa then tried to kill himself, but the weapon misfired.
Muzirwa appeared calm when he came into the station, Police Chief Stephen Edmiston said.
The couple, Zimbabwean immigrants, have three children in the Interboro School District, two teenagers and an 8-year-old special-needs son, officials said.
Muzirwa, a guard employed by Community Education Centers, has been on disability for the last two years. Officials did not disclose his injury.
He was charged with first- and third-degree murder and possession of an instrument of crime. He was held without bail.
