HARARE – Today marked exactly three years since the death of the founding leader of the opposition party Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), the late Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai and social media was flooded with messages of tribute to the life of a man who in many ways shaped opposition politics in Zimbabwe for almost two decades.
Tsvangirai was one of the founders of MDC in 1999, a party he led until his death on 14 February 2018.
He shaped the politics of the country for the greater part of those years, but will mainly be remembered for his fierce rivalry with the late former President Robert Mugabe.
Tsvangirai’s legacy is also of perseverance in the face of persecution as for most of those years in active politics, he faced the brutal force of regime but never gave up the fight for democracy.
He also served as the country’s Prime Minister from 2009 to 2013, a period which saw relatively economic and political stability that culminated in the adoption of the current Constitution considered one of the most progressive globally.
Below are some of the random tributes for the late former Prime Minister from both current political figures and ordinary citizens.

Today we fondly remember the passing on of our icon Dr M R Tsvangirai. Sadly the party he left us is split & under serious threat to disintegrate. I urge all my colleagues to remember the Zimbabwean dream which MT sacrificed for, come together & rebuild the MDC. MHSRIP
