UK – Zimbabwean born Taponeswa Mavunga has been appointed the director of the newly created position of director of Africa by Sony Music UK.
As part of her responsibilities, she will be expected to amplify UK-signed artists across Africa and also support artists within Africa to develop relationships, identify opportunities and increase visibility within the United Kingdom.
Mavunga is expected to report directly to the Sony Music UK and Ireland chairman and CEO, Jason Iley while also working closely with Mark Collen, the EVP of UK International, the Sony Music labels and Sony Music Africa on artist strategy.
Mavunga expressed excitement at this new role, saying “at this moment, when the global cultural landscape is changing so rapidly, I’m excited to play my part in the black cultural renaissance.”
The Zimbabwean born has been making waves in the music industry, previously holding top positions including being Talent and Music manager at MTV Networks Africa.
