JOHANNESBURG – Scores of Zimbabweans living in South Africa will miss out on the Covid-19 vaccine following the announcement by the South African authorities that the vaccination process will not include undocumented immigrants.

“We’d like to be able to deal with people based on the South Africa registration. We have no plan to deal with those that are not documented,” said the country’s health minister Zweli Mkhize.

On Monday, South Africa is set to receive its first batch of 1 million doses for the coronavirus vaccine which will be used to innoculate health workers first as per their roll-out plan.

The Southen African country has been hit the hardest by the pandemic in the continent but has already made plans to secure more vaccines with the next batch of 500 000 doses expected by the end of February.

Thousands of Zimbabweans have over the years migrated to the neighbouring country in search of better economic conditions.
