Mr Mugabe (89) dismissed his rival to power, Morgan Tsvangirai, as a “cry baby” for his claims that the president’s Zanu-PF party was working with Zimbabwe‘s Electoral Commission to alter the voters’ roll in their favour. He insisted that, despite his advanced years, he was still able to fight Wednesday’s polls.

Mr Mugabe said yesterday it would be up to the West to normalise relations with Zimbabwe should he win this week. “We have not offended against them, nor have we interfered with their own systems in any way, so it’s up to them really,” he added.
Mr Mugabe was speaking after his last rally before elections that will terminate a five-year coalition government that has brought a fragile peace to the troubled country. Polls have suggested that there is little clear water between the parties.
