South Africa’s Jacob Zuma’s personal advisor Lindiwe Zulu has performed a dramatic u-turn on Zimbabwe’s just ended elections and blasted MDC warring faction leaders Morgan Tsvangirai and Welshman Ncube for creating a rift that in her view Robert Mugabe has merely manipulated for another re-election.
Speaking four weeks after Mugabe was announced as winner in the just ended elections in which he flung a 61% win against the opposition, Zulu quoted by South Africa’s BDlive said the MDC parties were to blame for their failure. The two MDC parties chose to fight the poll separately, splitting the opposition vote. This made Mr Mugabe’s Zanu (PF) appear “stable and strong”, she said.
In month before the elections, Zulu drew international attention towards herself as she stood out to condemn Mugabe’s ZANU PF saying Zimbabwe was not ready to conduct elections in July as proposed by Mugabe. However this was before she was publicly silenced by Zuma in July.
Zulu called for the western countries to change their position on Zimbabwe. ”Europe and America must stop this stop-and-watch approach that they have for Zimbabwe,” she said.

“Stupid, Idiotic Street Woman”
Zulu’s change of stance comes after she was described as “stupid” and “a street woman,” by Mugabe.
Said Mugabe in June: ”If SADC does stupid things, Zimbabwe will move out of the regional block. Let it be known that we are in SADC voluntarily. If SADC decides to do stupid things we can move out and withdraw from SADC but for now we have had a SADC which has had good sense although from some quarters and l dare to say unfortunately these were not quarters of authority. They were just utterances by some stupid idiotic woman perhaps in South Africa saying ‘no, elections cannot be held on the 31st of July’ even against the ruling of our court and just an ordinary street woman says no. Ah! And really it’s interesting. Did such persons ever think that we as an independent country could take heed of these street utterances which were stupid and idiotic?”
When she was later silenced a month later, her boss Zuma issued a statement that she had issued “unauthorised.” The statement read in part:
“A number of statements have been made during the facilitation process which have been unauthorised and which are regrettable and unfortunate. Some of the utterances have also been inaccurate. The Presidency wishes to correct in particular the reports this weekend that President Zuma telephoned President Robert Mugabe to express his unhappiness about preparations for the Zimbabwean elections. No such telephone call has been made. The report is incorrect President Zuma has also been alerted to inappropriate postings in the social media on the Zimbabwean situation. South Africa remains fully committed to the warm historical relations with the Republic of Zimbabwe and wishes the people of Zimbabwe well as they prepare for the elections. ”
