HARARE – The members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police on Thursday besieged the Harare City Council chambers and arrested scores of people who were attending a full council meeting including journalists who were covering the proceedings.
It is reported that the police were acting under instructions from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC)
The three journalists who were arrested were Blessings Chidhakwa from The Herald, Takunda Mandura from Open Parly and Munashe Chokodza of 263Chat.
Emerging reports are that Deputy Mayor, Cllr Luckson Mukunguma managed to escape during the arrests.
Chris Mike, lawyer from the Media Institute of Southern Africa was deployed to go and secure the release of the three journalists.
All the arrested details were later discharged without a charge.
