Bulawayo — Adam “Adamski” Ndlovu will be laid to rest on Saturday in Bulawayo although the family was still consulting on where the icon will be rested following calls that he be declared a hero.
“What I can confirm to you is that following consultations within the family and the committee, we have decided that Adam be laid to rest on Saturday in Bulawayo.
“We cannot, however, state with certainty where exactly he will be buried because we have been following Press reports that calls have been made for him to be declared a hero so until then, we wait to be advised,” said Adam’s elder brother Madinda Ndlovu.
The equally legendary former Highlanders and Warriors right winger said clearer details will be known by today after confirmation of certain things.
Madinda was quick to note that the family was not against the suggestions and therefore they will not say no to whatever final position would have been taken by the authorities.
“If the nation says this is what they want of Adam, we will certainly consent to that, infact we will feel honoured as Ndlovu family that one of us has been recognised much as we are already touched by the mere fact of those suggestions,” said Madinda.
On suggestions that the former Bosso, FC Kriens, SR Delemont, FC Zurich, Moroka Swallows, Dynamos and Free State Stars striker’s funeral service be held at Barbourfields Stadium, the venue that brought Adamski fame and fortune, Madinda also said they will have to deliberate as a family and again it will be an honour to the Ndlovu family.
The divorced father of two, died in a horrific car crash on Sunday morning that also claimed the life of a 24-year- old female passenger Nomqhele Tshili a few kilometres from Victoria Falls while his young brother Peter sustained serious injuries.
Mourners continued thronging Adam’s residence at 14716 Imbabala Way in Selborne Park yesterday. People from various spheres of life kept on joining the Ndlovu family in mourning a truly loyal son of football.
Meanwhile, Peter is responding well to treatment at Mater Dei Hospital where he was admitted on Sunday afternoon with Madinda indicating that his young brother is now out of danger.
“According to what the doctors told us, Peter is out of danger and had it not been these fractures, he could have been discharged today (yesterday),” said Madinda.
Madinda confirmed that a specialist was hired to inform Peter, in the presence of the family, about Adam’s fate as he had been asking about him all along.
The family was worried about how he will take the news yet the romping in of a psychologist who, according to Madinda, did a very professionally job.
“The boy accepted the news like a man even though there were clear signs of shock. In terms of allowing the public to visit him, the family will monitor his progress in as far as the tragic news settles down in him because we cannot close him out forever.
“He also might have something that he might want to tell the world,” he said Madinda.
Madinda has been supported by his former colleagues at Highlanders who have been with him since his arrival on Sunday night.
Former Radion Two presenter Ezra Tshisa Sibanda has also been helping Madinda gather his emotional strength during this trying time to the Ndlovu family.
