ZIMBABWE – Quenching his sexual desires on a thirteen-year-old backfired for a Mutambara man after he was fined $100 for committing the offence.
Sydney Mazhuwa (21) of Manyande Village under Chief Mutambara was last week arraigned before Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura, for contravening Section 70 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.
He pleaded guilty to the offence.
Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.
The court heard that from November 1 to 19 this year, Mazhuwa unlawfully had sexual intercourse with the minor.
The court heard that after finishing her Grade 7 examinations the teenager visited her mother who is a shop attendant at Nhedziwa Business Centre.
Mazhuwa then proposed love to her.
“Mazhuwa then invited the minor to his place and had sexual intercourse. The love affair came to light after the teenager borrowed her brother’s cell phone and send love messages to the accused.
She was quizzed over the case and spilled the beans. A police report was lodged leading to Mazhuwa’s immediate arrest,” said Mr Karombe.
When asked by the court to explain his actions, Mazhuwa showed no remorse and questioned why he was arrested for sleeping with his girlfriend when they are in love.
“I slept with her because she is my girlfriend. Why should I be arrested and she told me that she is turning 17 years this month of November,” he said.
Mrs Chiundura ordered him to pay $100 fine and warned him against bedding minors.
“You better desist from that bad behaviour because if you continue doing it you will be imprisoned,” said Mrs Chiundura.
