ZIMBABWE – A 41-year-old Hurungwe man has been arrested on allegations of conniving with a self-styled prophet to kill his brother following a wrangle over their late parents estate.
Tangai Gambiza and the self-styled prophet have since been arrested in connection with the murder case.
Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the incident.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police will continue to update the nation on the weird murder cases that are occurring in our country, such as the recent case where Talent Gambiza (22) was killed by his brother over a wrangle emanating from their late parents’ estate,” she said.
She said Tangai first requested the self-styled prophet to administer some poison to Talent on the pretext that he was giving him medicine.
Talent started vomiting after consuming the concoction and was rushed to Makande Rural Health Service Centre where he was admitted.
“The two accused went to the hospital and requested the nurse to discharge Talent since he was recuperating. On their way home, they fatally attacked him with a log. They went on to burn the body using petrol before they disposed of the remains in a stream and a cave,” Snr Asst Comm Charamba said.
The two were later arrested after they had made a false report to the police that Talent was missing.
The remains were recovered and taken to Karoi District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
“We reiterate that members of the public should respect the sanctity of life and solve their differences without resorting to violence,” Snr Asst Comm Charamba said.
Seventeen people were murdered countrywide in separate incidents during this month as police continue to express concern over the sudden increase in murder cases.
Police are recording an average of four murder cases per week countrywide.
Most of the disagreements or conflicts resulted in domestic violence, which later turn into murder cases, while the other causes ranged from mere misunderstandings, such as fights over girlfriends.
Midlands recorded four cases, Harare (three), Mashonaland Central (two), Masvingo (two), Bulawayo (two), Mashonaland East (two), Manicaland and Mashonaland West recorded one each.
