RUKWEZA – Scores of people from different corners of the country thronged to Rukweza village to pay their last respect to veteran actor, Lazarus Boora popularly known as Gringo – who died aged 47 on Monday morning.
He succumbed to stomach cancer which he battled for long.
Renowned veteran filmmaker Stephen Chigorimbo and fellow actors William Matenga (Gweshegweshe) and Freddy Manjalima (Kapfupi) among others all attended.
During an exclusive interview with Zimdaily on the sidelines of the burial, a number of people expressed deep sadness at the loss of Gringo.
Chigorimbo described Boora as “a natural” in the area of comedy.
“When Mukadota passed on, we got a problem because to get people who are really comedians is not every person who can do comedy and Boora was a natural and a few other people.” said Chigorimbo
He further added that “We experienced a big loss now that he is gone, but we are happy that he showed the way.”
Boora’s fellow cast member in the famous Gringo Drama series, William Matenga who played the Gweshegweshe role said he was pained by the death of his colleague.
Matenga said,”we are pained. We have lost what I call a national hero in comedy.”
He also said he wished that statues could be put in every town in honour of such people like Gringo who contribute so much to the Arts industry.
One young man from Rukweza village said he was saddened by the death of Gringo because he was someone he looked upto and himself as someone who wanted to venture into the film industry had hoped the late Gringo was going to pave a way and show him the tricks needed in the industry.
