CHIVI – Villagers in Chivi today witnessed the official opening of the Community Information Centre (CIC) during this year’s belated World Post Day commemorations at Chivi Growth Point, Masvingo Province, as part of government’s efforts to attain a digital economy and a knowledge society for all Zimbabweans.
The Information Centre was officially opened by the Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, Hon Tatenda Mavetera under an ongoing exercise by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) to improve internet access in rural and urban parts of the country to promote inclusivity and equality.
The local commemorations are being held under the theme “The importance of Online Space and Universal access to information for a space and connected future”. Internet surfing is free of charge at all set up CICs, and communities are encouraged to make full use of the facilities.
The World Post Day is celebrated on the 9th of October each year as part of efforts to bring awareness to the Post’s role in the everyday lives of people and businesses, as well as its contribution to global social and economic development.
