HARARE – Henrietta Rushwaya, who is facing allegations of attempted gold smuggling has been reinstated as Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) president after a meeting by the federation’s national executive on Tuesday.
Rushwaya (54) was arrested in October last year after she was caught red-handed at the Robert Mugabe International Airport as she tried to skip to Dubai with 6kgs worth of gold.
She was subsequently suspended from her role as the President of the federation which represents small-scale miners in the country.
Following the meeting, sources say the executive moved a motion to have her reinstated into her position which was then unanimously adopted.
The former Zimbabwe Football Association(ZIFA) boss claimed that she had picked the wrong bag on the travelling day and is currently out on Z$100 000 bail.
Her arrest roped in more people into the case as it unravelled a wide syndicate.
