ZIMBABWE – A Harare man will spend a year in prison for punching his wife on the mouth, robbing her of two front teeth for not dishing out food on time.
Lovemore Tosa 29 was initially sentenced to 15 months in prison before three were suspended on condition of good behavior.
He will effectively serve the remaining 12months.
Lovemore had pleaded guilty to physical abuse charges when he appeared before Mbare Magistrate Anita Tshuma.
For the State, Tafara Chirambira proved that, Lovemore arrived home and his wife Precious Zvezvikonde, 30, asked him why he had not been picking up her calls.
He failed to account for his silence treatment, he asked Precious where his food was instead.
In response she told him that she was not yet done cooking and that is when he got furious and punched her all over the body, accusing of not being a good wife ,
He alleged that she had been entertaining other men to the extent of forgetting to prepare supper on time.
He then punched her across the mouth and left her with two tooth gaps.
Precious then lodged a complaint with the police leading to Lovemore’s arrest.
