ZIMBABWE – He claimed she said the child was not his, when the child was two years old and never saw the child again.
Tapera Mtize revealed this at the maintenance court after his former wife Thokozile Ndlovu appeared seeking U$350 for the upkeep of the fourteen year old girl.
“I cannot pay maintenance for the child every month because I am not convinced she is mine, since my former wife told me that the child is not from Mutoko.
“Secondly I cannot afford anything since the treatment I am taking for TB does not allow me to work.
“My wife is the one who is taking care of me and the children at the moment because the pills I take are very strong.
“My family is big and requires more money for l has a wife and five children.
“I can give her U$10 every month since I am not sure she is mine,” he said.
Thokozile, however, denied the claims saying Tapera is the father of the child.
“He is the father of the child and I want 350 I cannot afford her secondary school fees, “She said.
Magistrate Trevor Nyatsanza, who presided over the matter, ordered Tapera to pay U$40 per month.
