BULAWAYO – The MDC Alliance National Standing Committee has “resolved and recommended” the expulsion of Tendai Masotsha from the party.
This was resolved in a meeting held by the Committee on Thursday.
Masotsha who recently announced that she is taking an “indefinite sabbatical” from active politics is wrapped up in a scandal involving the abduction and torture of Tawanda Muchehiwa.
She is also facing increased pressure following a leaked audio in which she claimed Muchehiwa wanted to bomb government buildings.
However, her party released a statement dissociating itself from the claims she makes in the audio.
“The MDC-Alliance unequivocally dissociates itself with the utterances expressed by Tendai Masotsha in an audio recording which was circulated publicly on or about the 24th of November 2020, post our internal inquiry…
It also refuted the claims of a conversation between her and the Jameson Timba, who was part of the Ad Hoc team that was set up to investigate the involvement of Masotsha in the said abduction before recommending her expulsion.
“As a party of rules, the National Standing Committee resolves and recommends to the National Committee that Tendai Masotsha be expelled from the MDC-Alliance in accordance with the provisions of the party Constitution on the grounds that her conduct violates the values that govern the party and her continued membership would be detrimental to the MDC Alliance.
It emerged that Masotsha, who is Bulawayo’s Women Assembly Chairperson for MDC Alliance was in the same vehicle when Muchehiwa was abducted on the 30th of July this year.
However, under pressure due to these revelations, Masotsha claimed that she had also been abducted on the same day and was later dropped off near her home.
