HARARE – Zimdancehall star Soul Musaka, popularly known as Soul Jah Love has been conferred Liberation Hero status, according to a letter from the ruling Zanu-PF party.
An award-winning and one of the pioneers of the Zimdancehall genre, Soul Jah Love died on Tuesday at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in Harare.
His family revealed that ‘Sauro’ as he was also affectionately known was battling type 1 diabetes since he was 16 years old.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda, Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration, Obert Mpofu informs that President Mnangagwa has conferred the status to the late musician.
“His Excellency, the President and First Secretary of Zanu (PF), Cde E.D. Mnangagwa has conferred a Liberation Hero Status to the late Cde Soul Muzavazi Musaka who passed away on 16th February 2021 at Mbuya Dorcus Hospital. The family can be contacted through our Harare Provincial office.
“I shall be most grateful if you would make the usual armaments for his burial and payment of benefits to his family. He is from Harar4e province,” read the letter.

The status comes with a State-assisted funeral.
