ALGIERS – Zimbabwe had a night to forget, losing 3-1 as they failed to close the gap on Algeria in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier Group H encounter.
Thirty minutes into the game, Elvis Chipezeze parried a Sofiane Feghouli shot into Baghdad Bounedjah’s path to gift the host their first goal of the night.
Algeria doubled the lead just before the break after Sofiane Feghouli was left clear to nod home a cross from Riyad Mahrez.
Mahrez put the game to bed in the 66th minute, the Manchester City star dribbling his way through the defence to slot past the helpless Talbert Shumba who had replaced Chipezeze at the start of the second half.
The Warriors mounted pressure but could only find a consolation goal through Tino Kadewere.
Zimbabwe currently sit second in the group with 4 points behind Algeria who are unbeaten with 9 points.
Algeria are traveling to Zimbabwe this week for the return fixture slated for Monday.
