HARARE- City of Harare Mayor Cllr Jacob Mafume today met with Cuban Ambassador H.E Yenielys Vilma Reguriferos Linares at the Town House in Harare to discuss the significance of naming a Zimbabwean street after Fidel Castro.

The meeting aimed to explore ways to commemorate the late Cuban leader’s contributions to Zimbabwe’s development.

“Fidel Castro provided immense assistance to Zimbabwe in various fields, and we want to acknowledge his legacy by maintaining and preserving the monument named after him,” said Cllr Mafume.

He shared a personal experience, saying, “I was taught by a Cuban teacher during my high school days, and I appreciate the impact of Cuba’s support on our education system.”

The meeting also explored potential collaborations in healthcare, including the use of medical brigades for public health clinics.

Cllr Mafume suggested, “We can organize free public health clinics staffed by Cuban specialists based in Zimbabwe, and explore other areas of cooperation with the Cuban government.”

The discussion highlighted the strong relationship between Harare and Cuba, built on a foundation of mutual support and cooperation.
